In November, the municipality of Tame hosts the "Cotiza de Oro Festival", a cultural event dedicated to celebrating joropo, the music and dance genre that captures the spirit of Colombia’s eastern plains, known as the "Llanos Orientales".

The festival features children and young students from schools and dance academies in Tame and nearby towns like Fortul and Hato Corozal (Casanare), competing in dance categories such as traditional joropo and show dance. 

National Meeting of Martial Rhythmic Bands

In June, the municipality of Tame in Arauca hosts the Band Gathering of Martial and Rhythmic Music (Encuentro Nacional de Bandas Rítmicas Marciales), an event with over 25 years of tradition that has become one of the most significant gatherings of its kind in the region.

The event pays tribute to the town's martial heritage, earning Tame the title "Cradle of Liberty," which dates back to the liberation campaign when Simón Bolívar and Francisco de Paula Santander first met there, and the Colombian National Army was founded.

Patron Saint Festivities Our Lady of the Assumption

In August, the municipality of Tame celebrates its patron saint festivities in honor of the Assumption of Mary, a festivity (Fiestas Patronales Nuestra Señora de la Asunción) observed on the 15th of the month according to the Catholic liturgical calendar. The celebration includes a variety of religious, cultural, and recreational events.

On the day of the festivity, a solemn Mass is held, followed by a procession with the image of the Virgin Mary. This procession concludes in the town’s main square, where a serenade is held in honor of the Mother of Christ.

Colonies Festival

In December the municipality of Fortul in Arauca, located about 150 kilometers from the departmental capital, celebrates its traditional Colonies Festival (Festival de Colonias), an event with more than two decades of tradition in which the inhabitants of the town from other regions of the country celebrate their culture. At the same time, the return of family and friends who return to the town to spend the end of year holidays there is celebrated.

Tourism Fair

Since 2022, the Tourism Fair (Feria del Turismo) has been held in Saravena, Arauca, held for the first time on World Tourism Day on September 27, with the aim of promoting this economic activity in the region and publicizing the treasures that Saravena has. to offer.

In mid-August Tame celebrates its patron saint festivities in honor of Our Lady of the Assumption (Fiestas Patronales de Nuestra Señora de la Ascención), whose festival is commemorated on the 15th of the month.
 
During the festivities, the people of Tameño enjoy a varied program that includes live music with local talent and special guests, as well as the Reinado Internacional del Llano with candidates from different departments of the Colombian Orinoquía and the states of the Venezuelan plains.

"Fortuleños" prepare to experience this celebration nine days before, with the traditional novena to this devotion to the Virgin Mary, a novena that concludes on the 15th.
