In August, wind season in Colombia, the skies of the emblematic colonial town of Villa de Leyva dress up to receive the Wind and Kite Festival (Festival de Cometas y Viento), an event with almost half a century of tradition that attracts thousands of visitors each year.
 
The festival focuses on the tradition of kite flying, transforming the vast sky of Villa de Leyva into a colorful canvas of shapes and colors. Participants of all ages gather to display their kites, which range from simple designs to elaborate artistic creations. 

Villa de Leyva International Jazz Festival

At the end of June, since its first edition in 2011, the Villa de Leyva International Jazz Festival (Festival Internacional de Jazz de Villa de Leyva) is held, one of the most important festivals of this genre in the country.
 
During the festival, the Plaza Mayor and other emblematic spaces of the town such as the Cloister San Francisco become stages for a series of concerts and presentations that highlight both national and international artists. 

International Culture Festival

Since the 1970s, the International Culture Festival (Festival Internacional de la Cultura) has been held in the capital of Boyacá, one of the most relevant cultural events in Colombia. Normally held in November in Tunja, this festival has established itself as an important platform for cultural promotion and exchange at a national and international level.
 
During the festival, the city becomes the scene of cultural activities including concerts, dance performances, theater, cinema and art exhibitions. 

Zambrano Folklore and Cultural Festival

In December, the Zambrano Folkloric and Cultural Festival (Festival Folclórico y Cultural de Zambrano) takes place, an event that seeks to safeguard and celebrate the culture of the municipality and the Montes de María region.
 
One of the main events of the festival is the “little bird dance” contest, an emblematic tradition of Zambrano in which couples dance to the rhythm of drums, representing the courtship movements of birds. 

Patron Saint Festivities in Honor of San Juan Nepomuceno

In mid-May the town of San Juan Nepomuceno, in the Montes de María region in Bolívar, celebrates its patron saint festivities in honor of the 14th century Czech priest who gives its name to the town.
 
The central festival takes place on the 16th of the month with the patronal Eucharist, normally presided over by the Archbishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, followed by the procession with the image of the saint, which runs through the main streets of the municipality. 

San Jacinto Carnivals

In the week before the beginning of Lent in the municipality of San Jacinto in the Montes de María region, the traditional carnival is celebrated, a festival with the elements typical of the carnivals of the Caribbean coast.
 
One of the central events of the festivities is the Battle of Flowers, a colorful parade presided over by floats richly decorated with floral arrangements, ribbons and multicolored feathers, in which the candidates for the reign go. 

National Autochthonous Bagpipe Festival

The San Jacinto Native Bagpipe Festival (Festival Nacional Autóctono de Gaitas) is one of the most emblematic musical celebrations of the Colombian northern coast, which commemorates the cultural wealth inherited from the tri-ethnic mix.
 
It brings together various musical groups, both amateur and professional, among which the bagpipe shines, an emblematic instrument of the Colombian Caribbean inherited from the indigenous Kogis and Arhuacos and popularized internationally by the folklore group "Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto", winners of a Latin Grammy Award in 206. 

National Bullerengue Festival

At the beginning of December in the municipality of María La Baja, about 65 kilometers from Cartagena, the National Festival of Bullerengue (Festival Nacional del Bullerengue) is celebrated, a festival with which the people of Maria La Baja pay tribute to this rhythm typical of the Colombian Caribbean and the Darién region, inherited from the indigenous African rhythms brought to Colombia by slaves during the colonial period.
