Yipao Parade

The "Yipao" Parade (Desfile del Yipao) is one of the central events of the Cuyabras Festivals, which are held every October to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of Armenia. 

With this event, the inhabitants of the capital of Quindío pay tribute to the iconic "Jeep Willy", the flagship vehicle of the coffee-growing regions of Colombia.
 
The Willys MB was designed during World War II to respond to the need of the US Army to provide its troops with a light vehicle capable of responding on any type of terrain. 

Expo Coffee Fair

At the beginning of September, "Expo Eje Café" takes place at the Coffee Park, in the municipality of Montenegro, just half an hour from Armenia.

This annual event, which brings together producers, experts, entrepreneurs, and coffee enthusiasts, aims to showcase the quality and diversity of coffee produced in this region of Colombia.

Chontaduro National Fair

Every March, the municipality of Villagarzón in the Amazon foothills of Putumayo celebrates the National "Chontaduro" Festival (Feria Nacional del Chontaduro), a fiesta through which the town's inhabitants pay tribute to this emblematic fruit of the region as well as to the work of local farmers.

International River Festival

In July the municipality of San Miguel in Putumayo celebrates its River Festival (Festival Internacional del Río), with which its inhabitants pay tribute to the San Miguel River, which in that section serves as a natural border with Ecuador.
 
The aquatic competitions are some of the most anticipated events of the festival. In the town center of Puerto Colón, swimming, canoeing and racing competitions are held with different types of boats such as peque-peque - a wooden boat characteristic of the Colombian, Ecuadorian and Peruvian Amazon - or boats with outboard motors. 

Mocoa Anniversary

At the end of September the city of Mocoa, capital of the department of Putumayo, celebrates its birthday. With a week of festivals, the Mocoanos commemorate the official founding of this town on September 29, 1563, although the first Spanish settlements can be traced back to 1551.
 
The main event is the civic and cultural parade, where educational institutions, local organizations, musical bands and folk groups participate, filling the streets with joy, music and color.

Anniversary of the Municipality of Puerto Asís

At the beginning of May, the anniversary festivities of the municipality are celebrated in Puerto Asís (Aniversario del Municipio de Puerto Asís), founded on the 3rd of this month in 1912 by Capuchin missionaries who gave the newborn population the name of the native land of San Francisco.
 
The festivals have a varied cultural, recreational and sports program. During the weekend, soccer, volleyball and basketball tournaments are organized, as well as dance and folk music exhibitions and competitions.

Carnival of Forgiveness

In January, the Kamëntsá and Inga indigenous peoples of the Sibundoy Valley celebrate Bëtsknaté, also known as the Carnival of Forgiveness (Carnaval del Perdón). 

This colorful festival has its origin in an ancestral myth of the region, according to which Betiyeguagua was punished by Mother Earth and banished to Cerro de Patascoy. 

Upon his return he brought with him knowledge related to dance, singing and colorful costumes.
 
Currently Bëtsknaté is celebrated in Sibundoy on the Monday before Ash Wednesday.

Putumayo Black and White Carnival

Born in Pasto, the Black and White Carnival has become an emblematic festival throughout southwestern Colombia. One of the departments where it has the most roots is in Putumayo, where it is celebrated with slight variations in towns such as Mocoa, Villagarzón and Valle del Guamuez.
 
In the colonization processes of the first half of the 20th century, a large number of Nariñense peasants descended the slopes of the Nudo de los Pastos, taking with them the tradition of the carnival, towards the jungle plains of Putumayo. 

Orito January Carnivals

On the banks of the Patascoy River in the department of Putumayo, about 70 kilometers from the border with Ecuador, is the municipality of Orito, a town that emerged from the oil extraction camps in the Amazon foothills in the mid-20th century. 

At the beginning of each year Orito celebrates its carnivals, one of the most important festivities in the town.
 
During carnivals (Carnavales de Enero), the streets of Orito are filled with parades of floats and troupes, where participants wear elaborate costumes and colorful masks. 

Anniversary of the Foundation of Puerto Leguizamón

In the first month of the year, the anniversary festivities of Puerto Leguízamo(Aniversario de Fundación de Puerto Leguizamón) are celebrated, a municipality founded on January 22, 1920 with the original name of Caucayá.
 
Sports take the holidays. soccer, volleyball and basketball championships are held, as well as athletics, skating and cycling races. The gastronomic fair is one of the most prominent spaces of these festivities.
