In February 2024, the first edition of the Río Guatiquía Summer Festival (Festival de Verano Río Guatiquia) was held in Villavicencio, a festival that seeks to position itself as one of the main events of this category in the eastern Colombian plains.
 
The Villavicencio festival has the characteristic ingredients of the region's summer festivals such as soccer and beach volleyball tournaments and concerts with special guests of national and international stature. 

Anniversary of the city of Villavicencio

The Anniversary of Villavicencio (Aniversario de la Ciudad de Villavicencio), celebrated every year on April 6, commemorates the founding of this city, capital of the department of Meta and considered the gateway to the Eastern Plains of Colombia. 

This event is an opportunity to highlight the history, culture and economic growth of Villavicencio, which has gone from a small settlement to an expanding city, with great importance for the region.
 

"Llano" International, Folkloric and Tourist Festival

The municipality of San Martín de los Llanos—the oldest town in Meta, founded in 1585—celebrates the International Folkloric and Tourism Festival (Festival Internacional, Folclórico y Turístico del Llano) in November, centered around the feast day of Saint Martin of Tours, a saint born in what is now Hungary in the 4th century, whose festivity is commemorated on November 11.

The Canoeist Festival

On the banks of the Metica River, about 83 kilometers from Villavicencio, lies Puerto López, a town where every August the Canoeist Festival (Festival del Canoero) is held. With nearly two decades of tradition, it has become one of the main events on the region's festive calendar.

The festival's name pays tribute to the fishermen, who have been essential to the town's economic development since its beginnings.

International "Cachama" Festival

In early October, the municipality of Lejanías, located on the banks of the Guape River in the eastern foothills of Meta, celebrates its Fruit and Coffee Festival (Festival Frutícola del Llano y del Cafe). This event allows the people of Lejanías to honor the agricultural wealth of their municipality, where a wide variety of products are harvested thanks to the diverse climatic zones within its jurisdiction.

The main event of the festival is the Fruit Parade. Cart vendors travel through the town's streets, displaying colorful designs made with locally produced fruits.

Llanero Renaissance Festival

In December, Vista Hermosa, a municipality located about 150 kilometers from Villavicencio, celebrates the values and identity of the Colombian eastern plains region with the "Llanero" Renaissance Festival (Festival del Renacimiento Llanero), one of the most important events on the town's festive calendar.

The festival offers a wide range of activities, including folkloric parades where participants wear traditional costumes, and dance troupes that showcase the history and evolution of the municipality.

Horseshoe Cultural and Folk Festival

Puerto Concordia, a municipality in the southern part of Meta, on the banks of the Ariari River and just half an hour from San José del Guaviare, comes alive in December with the traditional Folkloric and Cultural Horseshoe Festival (Festival Cultural y Folclórico de la Herradura), a celebration that highlights local traditions and the cultural identity of the region.

One of the central events of the festival is the beauty pageant, where candidates from all corners of the municipality compete, showcasing their beauty, charm, and knowledge of the region’s culture and history.
