In December in Guapi, the patron saint festivities are celebrated in honor of the Immaculate Conception, also known as the Purísima de Guapi.

The central event of the festivities is the emblematic "balsadas parade". The Guapireños decorate their canoes with elaborate wooden structures that turn them into true floating altars.

At the end of December in the municipality of Guapi in the south of the department of Cauca, the traditional Carnival of the "Matachines" takes place, a festival that takes place on the 28th of the month (Day of the Holy Innocents) in several municipalities of the country.
 
In the days before the celebration, the town prepares with parades of troupes and caravans in which the inhabitants pay tribute to the culture and history of the region, preparing the festive atmosphere for the day of the matachines. 

In January the municipality of Argelia, located in the south of the department about 170 kilometers from Popayán, celebrates the traditional Carnival of Blacks and Whites, a typical festival of several towns in southwestern Colombia.

One of the central events of the carnival is the parade of floats and troupes, a colorful procession in which, with elaborate costumes and to the rhythm of the typical music of Cauca, the Algerians highlight the culture of the indigenous peoples of the region, the peasant traditions, biodiversity and its own myths and legends. 

At the beginning of the year, Santander de Quilichao, located approximately halfway between Popayán and Cali, celebrates its carnival, one of the most anticipated events on the festive calendar in this town.

The main event of the carnivals is the parade of comparsas, where groups from different neighborhoods and villages prepare for months to display their colorful costumes and creative choreographies. 

In August, the Fairs and Festivals of Corinto (Ferias y Fiestas de Corinto) are held, a municipality located in the north of the department of Cauca, about 120 kilometers from Popayán. The festivities, called For Peace, Reconciliation and Coexistence, seek to be an occasion for unity and joy in a territory historically affected by the internal armed conflict.

The wooden horse parade is one of the main events of the festivities.

In September, the municipality of Caloto celebrates its patron saint festivities in honor of the Niña María, whose image has accompanied the people of Caloto since the 16th century and who was crowned patron saint of the municipality on September 8, 1954, on the Nativity of Caloto festival. the Virgin.

From the end of August, the town's inhabitants begin to prepare for the festival with dawn, dawn rosaries and the novena in honor of the Girl Mary, which is prayed from August 29 to September 6. 

At the beginning of September, the National Gastronomic Congress is held in Popayán - named City of Gastronomy by UNESCO in 2005 - one of the most prominent events for chefs and professionals in the world of gastronomy in the country, which already has more than 20 years of tradition.

Every year the town of Usenda in the municipality of Silvia, about 60 kilometers from Popayán, hosts the Víctor Luis Fernández Band Competition (Festival Nacional de Bandas Fiesteras), born in 2017 and named in honor of this Caucano musician who became mayor of Silvia on two occasions. .

The contest brings together more than 500 artists from all over the department performing rhythms such as bambuco, porro and fandango. Within the framework of this event, a peasant music competition from the southwest of the country is also held. 

In January the municipality of San Sebastián in the south of the department of Cauca celebrates its patron saint festivities, in which it pays tribute to the 3rd century martyr who gives its name to the town.

The central days of the patron saint's festivities are January 20, the day on which Saint Sebastian is commemorated according to the Catholic festive calendar, and the 19th, the eve of the festival, on which the Eucharist is celebrated, followed by a procession with the image of the patron saint through the streets of the town.

At the beginning of the year, the Carnival of Blacks and Whites (Carnaval de Blancos y Negros de Cajibío) is celebrated in Cajibío, a municipality of Cauca located about 45 kilometers from Popayán, a traditional festival of several towns in southwestern Colombia, best known for its original version that takes place in Pasto.
