The town of Atánquez in the municipality of Valledupar, part of the Kankuamo indigenous reservation, is home to a centuries-old tradition known as Los Diablitos de Corpus Christi.
 
During the Catholic holiday of Corpus Christi, celebrated 60 days after Easter Sunday, a colorful parade takes place in Atánquez that symbolizes the eternal struggle between good and evil.

During the fair, high-quality livestock exhibitions are held, where the best bovine, ovine and equine breeds are presented, highlighting advances in genetics and animal management. 

Vallenata Legend Festival

Since 1968, the Vallenato Legend Festival (Festival de La Leyenda Vallenata), also known as "Festival Vallenato", has been held in Valledupar at the end of April or beginning of May, the most important festival of this genre in the entire country and one of the main musical festivals in Colombia. 

The festival was founded on the initiative of the legendary Rafael Escalona, ​​Consuelo Araújo Noguera and the then governor of Cesar Alfonso López Michelsen.
 

Festival of Accordions, Verses and Songs

In November, the district of Los Corazones within the jurisdiction of Valledupar hosts the Accordion, Verses and Songs Festival (Festival de Acordeones, Versos y Canciones), an event that celebrates the "Vallenato" tradition of the region.
 
The festival focuses on accordion competitions, who compete in various categories, from amateurs to professionals, performing the four airs of vallenato: stroll, merengue, son and puya.

At the beginning of October, the municipality of La Paz, just 12 kilometers from Valledupar, celebrates its patron saint festivities in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi, whose festival is commemorated on the 4th of the month according to the Catholic holiday calendar.
 
The main festival is celebrated with the solemn Eucharist followed by a massive procession through the streets of the town with the image of this Italian saint. 

Vallenata Music Festival on Guitars

Since 1987, the "Vallenato Guitar" Music Festival (Festival de la Música Vallenata en Guitarras) has been held in Agustín Codazzi, a municipality of Cesar located in the heart of the Vallenata area about 60 kilometers from Valledupar, an event founded by the famous Codacense minstrel Armando León Quintero with the aim of equipping guitarists of a space to face each other and measure their skills in the way that the accordion players did in the different musci festivals that were already celebrated at that time.

In August, Caldono, a municipality in eastern Cauca located about 80 kilometers from Popayán, celebrates its patron saint festivities in honor of San Lorenzo, one of the main events in the town's festive and religious calendar.
 
The festivities begin nine days before. Different groups, companies and educational institutions in the municipality coordinate each day of praying the novena to San Lorenzo, in preparation for the great festival. 

Timbiquí Carnival

Throughout December, the municipality of Timbiquí, on the Pacific coast of the department of Cauca, experiences its carnivals, the name by which the end-of-year festivities are known locally.
 
The carnivals begin on December 4 with the festival of Santa Bárbara, patron saint of the municipality. The festival is commemorated with the solemn Eucharist, followed by a procession with music, songs and prayers. In this way the festivities are inaugurated, which last until January 6.
