In February, the municipality of La Macarena, home to the beautiful Caño Cristales, organizes the Río Guayabero Summer Festival (Festival de Verano), an event that celebrates the bond between the Macareña community and the river that borders the town center.

Each November, the municipality of La Macarena celebrates the "Flor de la Velloussea" "llanera" music Festival (Festival de Música Llanera La Velloussea). The festival is named after the region’s emblematic flower, which grows exclusively on the rocks near Caño Cristales, close to the town center.

Women's World Cowboy Competition

Since 2006, the World Cowgirl Competition (Concurso Mundial de la Mujer Vaquera) has been held, an initiative by a group of women from Villavicencio who organized this event to break into a space traditionally considered exclusively male. World "Coleo" Championship

In October, Villavicencio hosts one of the most important cowboy competitions on the continent: the World "Coleo" Championship (Encuentro Mundial del Coleo), first held in 1997 at the Las Malocas Park on the outskirts of the city, where it continues to be held today.

"Coleo" is a traditional sport of the Colombian and Venezuelan eastern plains, also practiced under different names and rules in Mexico, Brazil, and Panama.

On July 16, Villavicencio celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Fiestas Patronales de la Virgen Del Carmen), the patroness of the diocese, with deep devotion.

The day is marked by various religious celebrations, beginning early in the morning with the traditional dawn rosary, where the community welcomes the feast day with songs and prayers in the streets.

Throughout the day, multiple masses are held, the main one taking place in the afternoon, followed by the traditional vehicle parade.
