In September, Buenaventura hosts the Pacific Folk Festival (Festival Folclórico del Pacífico), one of the most important cultural events in the region, which highlights the musical, dance, cultural and gastronomic richness of the Colombian Pacific coast.
During the festival, the streets of Buenaventura are filled with color, music and dance with the participation of comparsas, dance groups and musicians who perform traditional rhythms such as the currulao, the abozao, the juga and the chirimía.
Colorful costumes and traditional instruments, such as drums, marimbas and cununos, are protagonists in each presentation, transporting attendees to the heart of the Afro roots of the Pacific.
The craft fairs are another of the great attractions of the festival with stalls where visitors can taste typical dishes from the region, such as fish encocado, coconut rice, chontaduro-based products or the popular viche.
The Señorita Litoral Queenship is also held with candidates from all the departments of the Colombian Pacific coast.
The festival also has an academic agenda with conferences and discussions on the history of the region and the importance of cultural preservation.
The Pacific Folk Festival (Festival Folclórico del Pacífico) is a key space to celebrate the cultural identity of the Colombian Pacific, strengthening the pride and sense of belonging of its inhabitants, while promoting tourism and cultural exchange.
