With a history closely linked to gold mining since the mid-17th century, El Bagre became a municipality in the second half of the 20th century when, by Ordinance 22 of the Departmental Assembly, it was segregated from the municipality of Zaragoza.
Every October the inhabitants of the town celebrate this event with the "Fiestas De La Cultura, El Oro Y El Renacer" , a tribute to the culture and history of this town in Bajo Cauca Antioquia.
The festival program includes live performances by local artists and special guests, parades of floats and troupes, musical competitions for children and adults, popular festivals and gastronomic fairs with typical dishes from the area such as three-phase sancocho, catfish or the popular sausagepapa.
Sports events are also held with lightning tournaments of different sports.
The Culture, Gold and Renacer Bagreño Festivals unite the entire community of this town to celebrate their municipality, strengthening the identification of the bagreños with their territory and their culture in a colorful and musical environment.
