The Petronio Álvarez Pacific Music Festival (Festival de Música del Pacífico Petronio Álvarez), popularly known as "El Petronio", is an event dedicated to celebrating and preserving the rich musical heritage of Afro-Colombian Pacific folklore.
This festival takes place in the vibrant city of Santiago de Cali during August and focuses on highlighting composers, musical groups and researchers who promote the music of the Colombian Pacific region.
The organization of the event is in charge of various local cultural institutions, with the support of the Secretariat of Culture and Tourism of the Mayor's Office of Santiago de Cali, who work together to guarantee the excellence and authenticity of the festival.
Since its inception on August 9, 1996, the Petronio Álvarez has grown in relevance and scope, becoming a cultural beacon not only for Cali but for all of Colombia. The festival pays tribute to the Buenos Aires musician Patricio Romano Petronio Álvarez Quintero, whose musical legacy is celebrated through this event.
Over the years, the festival has toured several emblematic venues in Cali, from the Cali Cultural Center to the Alberto Galindo Sports Unit, passing through the Los Cristales Open Air Theater and the Pascual Guerrero Olympic Stadium.
This cultural event not only offers music, but also a platform for the artistic and craft expression of the region, bringing together musicians, artisans and spectators from all over the country in a vibrant celebration of Afro-Colombian culture.
