In early February, the municipality of Lérida, located north of Tolima about 80 kilometers from Ibagué, celebrates its patronal feast in honor of Our Lady of Candelaria (Fiestas Patronales en Honor a la Virgen de la Candelaria), whose feast day is observed on the second day of the month.
The feast of the patron saint is celebrated with Masses held every hour from dawn until 7 p.m., where the faithful express their devotion and gratitude.
The festival days are filled with cultural, sports, and recreational activities, with a beauty pageant featuring candidates from all parts of the municipality as a highlight.
As part of the pageant, there is a float parade with the candidates, showcasing the talent and creativity of Lérida’s artisans.
Additionally, the festivities include artistic performances, concerts, popular dances, and sports events. The food fairs are also a highlight, where visitors can enjoy typical regional dishes, such as tamales and *lechona*.
The Patronal Feast of Our Lady of Candelaria (iestas Patronales en Honor a la Virgen de la Candelaria) in Lérida is not only an expression of faith but also an opportunity to strengthen cultural identity and community cohesion in the municipality.
