On June 29, the entire department of Tolima celebrates the Day of "Lechona Tolimense", a festivity established by departmental ordinance 020 of 2003 to honor this traditional dish of the region, made with pork stuffed with rice, peas, and spices.

In El Espinal, a town located about 55 kilometers from Ibagué, this date is celebrated with special joy as it coincides with the San Pedro festivities, an emblematic celebration in this area.

During the event, the best "lechona" chefs in the region compete to offer the most delicious and well-prepared dish, attracting locals and tourists eager to enjoy this specialty in its most authentic version.

More than 20 local vendors set up stalls where visitors can taste this dish, accompanied by "arepas" and "envueltos", in a festive and family-friendly atmosphere.

It is tradition for the contestants in the San Pedro pageant to attend the event center where the food fair is held to sample this traditional dish.

The Day of "Lechona Tolimense" in El Espinal is not only a celebration of local cuisine but also a boost to tourism and the region’s economy, highlighting the pride of Tolima’s identity.
