In 1987, the Green Moon Festival was held for the first time, a celebration designed to pay tribute to the traditions and culture of the islands of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina.
Its history of English settlements and historical proximity to the English-speaking islands of the Caribbean have given this archipelago a very distinctive identity that differentiates it from all the other departments of the country.
During the festival, music takes on a leading role. With live performances by local and international artists, you can enjoy the most characteristic rhythms of this region of the continent such as reggae, dancehall, Haitian kompa, zouk, soca, calypso, salsa, merengue, and the natives of San Andrés: mazurka, waltz, schotis, quadrille, "polea" and "pasillo".
There are also gospel music concerts, traditional from the Baptist temples of the Caribbean islands. Likewise, academic activities are carried out aimed at preserving and disseminating the San Andres Creole language, a language derived from English that is typical of the archipelago and some regions of Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
The experience would not be complete without the traditional gastronomic fair in which the typical preparations of the islands such as rondón, fish ball, breadfruit and crab empanadas come to light.
Green Moon Fest is more than a celebration; It is a platform for cultural expression and community unity, strengthening local pride and attracting visitors to discover and appreciate the richness of this Caribbean paradise.
