In August, Pereira residents commemorate the anniversary of their city, founded on the 30th of the month in 1863, with the traditional Harvest Festival (Fiestas de la Cosecha).

This festival, made official in 1920 but whose origins date back to the old livestock fairs that were held in the 19th century, has become one of the most important events in the festive calendar of the capital of Risaralda.

Among the more than 100 massive events that make up the festivities, the Harvest Carnival parade stands out, in which representatives of the country's main carnivals participate, such as the one in Barranquilla, the Black and White one in Pasto or the Feria de the Flowers of Medellín.

Sports events and craft and gastronomic fairs are also held with both international and local cuisine, where the arepa is the main protagonist.

Concerts are another of the great attractions of the holidays. Recognized artists of national and international stature perform in Pereira before thousands of spectators, making the attendees vibrate.

There are also activities for the whole family, such as cycling competitions, marathons and horseback riding, which reinforce the community spirit.

The Harvest Festivals (Fiestas de la Cosecha) not only celebrate Pereira's agricultural heritage, but also promote tourism, strengthen the local economy and unite the community around its traditions and cultural values.
