Every March, the municipality of Villagarzón in the Amazon foothills of Putumayo celebrates the National "Chontaduro" Festival (Feria Nacional del Chontaduro), a fiesta through which the town's inhabitants pay tribute to this emblematic fruit of the region as well as to the work of local farmers.

Unlike what may happen at other festivals, in the Chontaduro Festival, the honored product is not just a name; it is undeniably the star of the program. Competitions are held for who can peel the most chontaduro in the shortest time, as well as for the heaviest cluster and the largest fruit.

At the food fair, this orange-colored fruit shines in various products such as jams, in syrup, flours, ice creams, and milkshakes.

There is also an academic day featuring workshops and lectures on pest management, comprehensive use of the palm, and the nutritional value of chontaduro.

The Departmental Chontaduro Beauty Pageant attracts contestants from various municipalities in Putumayo, making it one of the most anticipated events of the festivities.

Additionally, the fair includes folkloric parades, artistic performances, dance competitions, and traditional music, enriching the festive atmosphere. The National Chontaduro Festival (Feria Nacional del Chontaduro) serves as a platform that promotes the economic and cultural development of Villagarzón while also fostering sustainability and pride in Amazonian products.
