At the beginning of May, the anniversary festivities of the municipality are celebrated in Puerto Asís (Aniversario del Municipio de Puerto Asís), founded on the 3rd of this month in 1912 by Capuchin missionaries who gave the newborn population the name of the native land of San Francisco.
The festivals have a varied cultural, recreational and sports program. During the weekend, soccer, volleyball and basketball tournaments are organized, as well as dance and folk music exhibitions and competitions.
Likewise, parades are held with the participation of the municipality's educational institutions, artisans who show their talent with colorful floats, and the indigenous peoples of the region.
The gastronomic festival is another of the great attractions of the holidays. There you can taste the typical dishes of Puerto Asís, the traditional cuisine of the indigenous communities and cuisine characteristic of other regions of the country.
The Puerto Asís Anniversary Festivals (Aniversario del Municipio de Puerto Asís) not only celebrate the history of the municipality, but are also an opportunity to promote tourism and share the cultural identity of Putumayo with the rest of the country.
