In mid-July, the municipality of El Carmen in Norte de Santander celebrates its traditional fairs and festivals (Fiestas Patronales de La Virgen Del Carmen), on the occasion of its patron saint festivities in honor of the Virgin of Carmen, whose festival is commemorated on July 16.

The varied program of the festivities includes craft, business and gastronomic fairs where you can purchase typical products of the region such as arepas, tamales, the characteristic pineapple cake and different doughs. Float and troupe parades are also held in which Carmelites display all their creativity to pay tribute to the history and traditions of their town with colorful costumes.

Music also has its own space with the Catatumbo Music Festival (Festival de Vientos del Catatumbo), a competition of bands from all the municipalities of the region that perform traditional music. There are also sporting events, popular dance performances and religious events in honor of the town's Patron Saint.

The Fairs and Festivals of El Carmen (Fiestas Patronales de La Virgen Del Carmen) not only celebrate the cultural identity of the municipality, but also promote tourism and strengthen the sense of community, making this event a key moment in the festivities calendar of Norte de Santander.
