On June 24 (feast of San Juan Bautista) Pasto, capital of the department of Nariño whose municipal seat bears the name of San Juan de Pasto, celebrates its name day.
On the occasion of this festival, the "International Trios Competition" has been held since 2012, an event that brings together trio groups from different Latin American countries, becoming a stage for artistic and cultural exchange.
During the contest, the participating trios perform classic pieces of bolero, aisle, waltz and other romantic genres. The event has an expert jury that evaluates the technical quality, instrumental interpretation and style of the participants.
The event has four main categories: Professional, Open, Masters - for groups made up of performers over 45 years old - and Alternative, in which groups made up of artists who play instruments other than the traditional trio format such as drums, synthesizers or electric guitar.
The competition not only celebrates "trio music", but also strengthens the cultural identity of the region, attracting tourists and lovers of romantic music. Pasto becomes, during this event, a meeting point for the celebration of bolero and romanticism, with an atmosphere full of nostalgia and art.
