Since 2007, the International Festival “Ipiales Cuna de Grandes Tríos” has been held in Ipiales, a municipality located on the border between Colombia and Ecuador, one of the most important string music events in the country. The festival takes place in October, as part of the celebrations for the anniversary of the founding of Ipiales as a municipality.
For two days, the Plaza del 20 de Julio in Ipiales is a meeting place for music lovers, who can enjoy a variety of concerts in which both established groups and new talents perform, offering performances ranging from the classics of bolero and aisle to innovative fusions with other genres.
The festival prioritizes local talent. Usually about half of the trios that perform come from either Ipiales or other towns in Nariño such as Túquerres or Pasto. Being an international festival, groups from countries such as Mexico, Spain, Ecuador and the United States also perform.
In addition to its cultural value, the festival promotes tourism in Ipiales, attracting national and international visitors who take advantage of the opportunity to learn about the beauty and hospitality of this Andean city.
The Ipiales Cuna de Grandes Trios International Festival is, without a doubt, a cultural jewel that enriches and celebrates the musical heritage of the region.
