Each November, the municipality of La Macarena celebrates the "Flor de la Velloussea" "llanera" music Festival (Festival de Música Llanera La Velloussea). The festival is named after the region’s emblematic flower, which grows exclusively on the rocks near Caño Cristales, close to the town center.

The festival brings together professional and amateur artists from all corners of the Colombian eastern plains, competing in traditional "llanera" music festival categories such as "voz recia" (strong voice) and original song.

There are also "joropo" dance performances, where couples showcase their skills in this traditional dance that reflects the strength and elegance of the plains.

The festival features performances by prominent regional artists. Other musical genres, such as "vallenato" and reggaeton, also have a place, ensuring enjoyment for all tastes. Throughout the weekend, other expressions of local culture are celebrated, including traditional bull tailing, a regional sport, and horseback rides.

The "Flor de la Velloussea" Festival not only promotes "llanero" art and culture but also boosts tourism in La Macarena, a region famous for its natural beauty, attracting visitors who enjoy both the music and the area’s breathtaking nature.
