Every March, the municipality of Cumaral, located in the foothills of the Meta plains, hosts the World Cowboy Festival (Festival de La Vaquería), an event held since 2007.

During the event, contestants from countries like Mexico, the United States, Panama, and various departments of the Colombian eastern plains compete in bull tailing, a traditional regional sport that involves taking down a bull by its tail, as well as in traditional cowboy rope events.

The event includes competitions in different categories, such as adult male and female, youth, pre-youth, and even children's categories, allowing participants as young as four years old to take part in horseback barrel racing and stake events.

The World Cowboy Festival (Festival de La Vaquería) also features cultural activities like "llanera" music performances, traditional dances, and food exhibitions, where attendees can enjoy typical dishes from the Llanos, such as "carne a la llanera" (grilled beef).

This event not only promotes tourism in the region, attracting visitors and competitors from different countries, but also strengthens pride in cowboy and local culture, establishing Cumaral as a key reference in the preservation of these rural traditions.
