In San Juan del Cesar in La Guajira at the end of June, the Patron Saint Festivities (Fiestas Patronales de San Juan Bautista) are celebrated in honor of San Juan Bautista, one of the most important celebrations in the municipality's festive calendar.
The main event is the solemn Eucharist followed by a religious procession in which parishioners walk through the streets of the municipality with the image of Saint John the Baptist, accompanied by songs and prayers.
In addition, masses and "novenas" are celebrated throughout the day that reinforce the spiritual nature of the festivities. The massive participation of the community in these religious events is a clear testimony of their faith and tradition.
At the same time, the festivals include cultural activities such as parades, presentations by folk groups, and concerts of vallenato music, a genre that has particular roots in the municipality. Sports events, craft and gastronomic fairs are also organized that highlight the typical flavors of La Guajira.
These festivals are not only an expression of the religiosity of San Juan del Cesar, but also an opportunity for community gathering, the celebration of traditions and the strengthening of the cultural identity of the region.
