At the beginning of December, the Fique Festival (Festival del Folclórico del Fique ) takes place in the district of La Junta in the jurisdiction of the municipality of San Juan del Cesar, birthplace of the legendary Diomedes Díaz, a celebration with more than 50 years of tradition with which Residents of the sector pay tribute to their artisans and to this material with which all kinds of woven products are made.
The festival is marked by the different craft competitions that take place. During the weekend, artisans are awarded in categories such as traditional fique crafts, traditional needle weaving and traditional needle fiber extraction, highlighting the ancestral work of the weavers.
As San Juan del Cesar is an important place in the history of vallenato, the birthplace of not only Diomedes Díaz but also the famous accordionist Juancho Rois, the festival has an unpublished song contest that rewards local talent and creativity.
Likewise, a pageant is carried out with candidates from different sectors of the municipality. The coronation night is rounded off by a musical evening with vallenato as the main protagonist.
The Fique Folk Festival (Festival del Folclórico del Fique ) not only celebrates an artisanal and economic tradition, but also strengthens the sense of identity and pride of the "La Junta" community.
