At the end of June in Gigante, a municipality in central Huila on the eastern bank of the Magdalena River, the traditional San Juan Festivities (Fiestas Patronales en Honor a San Juan Bautista) are celebrated, a typical holiday in the department.

The San Juan Folkloric Festival extends over the weekend closest to June 24, the date on which the Catholic Church commemorates the feast of Saint John the Baptist, and includes various cultural and recreational activities such as artisan, gastronomic, and entrepreneurship fairs, live music, folkloric parades, and horseback rides.

The Municipal Bambuco Beauty Pageant is also held, an event where candidates from different parts of Gigante showcase their beauty and knowledge of the town’s culture while paying tribute to this musical genre, which is representative of Colombia’s Andean region.

These festivities not only preserve Huila's cultural legacy but also promote tourism and community integration, establishing themselves as a prominent event in the region and one of the most anticipated dates on Gigante's festive calendar.
