In Planeta Rica, municipality of Córdoba, about 55 kilometers from the departmental capital Montería, the National Folkloric Band Competition (Concurso Nacional de Bandas Folclóricas) is held annually in December.
The event brings together talented folk bands from different parts of the country, mainly from the departments of the Caribbean region, who compete in an atmosphere full of tradition and joy.
For several days, attendees enjoy parades, concerts and live performances that highlight the musical and cultural richness of the region.
The bands compete for first places in various categories, performing unpublished works, being evaluated by a specialized jury.
Likewise, cultural parades with troupes and forums and discussions about history and preservation of the indigenous rhythms of the Caribbean are held. In addition to its musical value, the contest is a space for community integration, where the cultural identity of Córdoba is strengthened and tourism in Planeta Rica is promoted.
This event is a source of pride for the local inhabitants and a reference for Colombian folklore, consolidating itself as one of the most important music festivals in the department.
