At the end of June in the municipality of San Pelayo, about 30 kilometers from Montería, the National Porro Music Festival (Festival Nacional del Porro) is celebrated, which pays tribute to this musical rhythm typical of the Colombian Caribbean region that fuses elements of indigenous piper groups, the rhythms African and European wind instruments.
Musical performances are the center of the festival. Groups from different departments of the country appear before the jury performing "porro palitia'o" and "tapa'o", in the three categories: youth, seniors and Queen of Queens.
