Every year at the beginning of January in Nuquí, tribute is paid to the "Tamborito", a folk dance and traditional musical genre from this region of the Colombian Pacific, characterized by a musical dialogue established between a lead singer, choir and drums, generally accompanied by colorful dances
Deeply rooted in the history of Nuquí society, in accordance with local tradition, the festival was revived in 2021 as a tribute to the ancestral customs of the Nuquí elders, and has been celebrated annually since following a well-defined agenda that includes numerous musical presentations, urban art, conversations with town elders about the memory of Tamborito, craft markets, visits to rural spaces focused on sustainable agriculture and the popular vicheras, community dinners in which they eat, dance and share stories.
Beyond simply being a tribute to a musical tradition, the Tamborito Festival is a journey of the five senses to the very heart of the rich Afro-Colombian culture of the Pacific coast.
