In September the municipality of Istmina celebrates its patron saint festivities in honor of the Virgen de las Mercedes, whose festival is commemorated on the 24th of the month according to Catholic tradition.
The celebrations are in charge of the different neighborhoods of the town that organize colorful parades of groups with striking costumes and costumes that celebrate the culture of this region of Chocó, biodiversity and the Afro-descendant legacy.
The shawm rhythms, folk dances and musical performances fill the streets with joy, while the gastronomic samples allow you to enjoy the typical food of Chocó.
The celebration reaches its climax on July 16 with the mass in honor of the Virgen del Carmen, followed by a procession and a concert to close the festivities with the participation of local artists and special guests.
