In November, the district of Los Corazones within the jurisdiction of Valledupar hosts the Accordion, Verses and Songs Festival (Festival de Acordeones, Versos y Canciones), an event that celebrates the "Vallenato" tradition of the region.
The festival focuses on accordion competitions, who compete in various categories, from amateurs to professionals, performing the four airs of vallenato: stroll, merengue, son and puya.
Piqueria competitions are also held in which two minstrels compete, showing their ability to create ingenious and rhythmic verses, an essential component of traditional vallenato.
Unreleased songs are also a key part of the festival, where composers present new works, enriching the vallenato repertoire with lyrics that tell stories of love, daily life and coastal culture.
In addition to musical competitions, the festival includes parades, folk dance performances, and recreational activities that involve the entire community.
The Festival of Accordions, Verses and Songs in Los Corazones not only celebrates music, but also strengthens the cultural identity of the region, uniting its inhabitants around their most precious musical legacy.
