At the beginning of February, the municipality of Orocué, located south of Casanare on the banks of the Meta River, dresses up to celebrate its patron saint, the Virgin of Candelaria, whose holiday is commemorated on the 2nd of the month according to the liturgical calendar. .

The central moment of the festivities is the Mass in honor of Our Lady of Candelaria, followed by a massive procession through the streets of the town with the image of this Marian devotion originating from the Canary Islands, which ends in the central square of the town.

In addition to its religious component, the patron saint festivities of Orocué serve to celebrate the culture of the region.

"Llanera" music enlivens the festivities throughout the weekend and tournaments of emblematic sports of the eastern Colombian plains such as coleo de toros and lazo criollo are held. The popular festivals in the central park unite the entire community around music and dance with live performances by local artists and dance orchestras.

The fireworks, present throughout the weekend, reinforce the festive atmosphere of the town.

The patron saint festivities of Orocué are a manifestation of local pride and identity, strengthening community ties and celebrating both religious devotion and the culture of the region.
