At the beginning of the year in Sabanalarga (Casanare) the Orange Festival (Festival de La Naranja) is celebrated, a celebration with more than three decades of tradition with which the town pays tribute to one of its most characteristic products.

The festival begins with a gastronomic fair in which attendees can enjoy different preparations with orange, such as cocktails, juices and desserts, in addition to a wide variety of typical dishes from the plain.

During the four days of the festival, a series of activities characteristic of the region are carried out, such as horseback riding, bullfights, cockfights, “soap pig” and bull coleus competitions, and the traditional game of “rescue of the Indian” in in which two riders face each other in a race in which they must “rescue” a character dressed as an Indian halfway along the road.

Normally the Orange Festival takes place simultaneously with the Sabanalarga Livestock Fair, so attendees can also participate in the livestock exhibitions of this event.

The Orange Festival in Sabanalarga not only celebrates an emblematic fruit, but also strengthens the identity and sense of community, promoting the economic and cultural development of the municipality and consolidating itself as an unmissable event on the regional calendar.
