In November in the municipality of Aguadas the Iraca Festival(Pregón de Las Fiestas de La Iraca) is celebrated, a festival that has been carried out since the 1980s to exalt the iraca (also known as toquilla palm), a typical local product that is used to make the traditional Aguadeño hat.
During the festivities, a series of events are held including parades and craft shows. The artisans of Aguadas, recognized for their skills have the opportunity to exhibit and sell their products, highlighting the quality and beauty of the hats that have become a symbol of the municipality.
In addition, the festivals feature cultural performances, such as folk dances and traditional music, that enhance the festive atmosphere and celebrate the cultural roots of Aguadas.
Another notable component of the Iraca Festival is the election of the Queen of "Iraca", who represents the beauty, culture and tradition of the municipality.
This election is a central event that attracts the attention of locals and visitors, and symbolizes the pride and identity of the community.
After more than a decade in oblivion, the Iraca Festival returned to Aguadas in 2017, once again becoming one of the most representative festivals of the department of Caldas and its traditions.
