In the middle of the year, the town of La Dorada in Magdalena Caldense celebrates its traditional Carnival of the River and the Sun (Carnaval del Río y el Sol), a festival with which the "Doradans" pay tribute to two key elements in the life of the municipality: the majestic Magdalena River, which runs through the region. , and the warm climate that characterizes this area.
The Rio Grande is the scene of activities such as artisanal fishermen's competitions and nautical parades.
There are also parades of floats and troupes, concerts in the main park, parades for adults and children, dance performances and sporting events such as micro-soccer, paintball and volleyball tournaments.
One of the central events of the festivities is the Reinado Corazón de Colombia, named after the nickname La Dorada receives due to its geographical location.
Candidates from different towns in Caldas and Magdalena such as Honda or Puerto Salgar compete for the title of queen of the festival. Throughout the weekend,
in addition to the typical parades in swimsuits and traditional clothing, the candidates perform a display of gastronomic skill, preparing typical dishes from the region.
