In November, Villa de Leyva is the scene of the International Independent Film Festival (Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente), an event that has been held in this emblematic town of Boyacá since 2007 and has established itself as a perfect incubator for new Colombian directors.

During the festival, Villa de Leyva experiences cinema with screenings of a wide range of independent films from various parts of the world, which are frequently held on the characteristic white walls of colonial houses. Throughout the festival, more than 100 hours of cinema are projected in different parts of the town.

The films, which come from all corners of the globe, compete for the FÓSIL Award in categories such as Best Professional Short Film, Best International Short Film, Best School Short Film, Best Animated Short Film, Best Music Video and the Fósil Award for Best Feature Film.

The event provides a valuable platform for emerging and established filmmakers, offering a showcase for their work and encouraging cultural and artistic exchange. The screenings are accompanied by round tables, workshops and conferences that address topics related to independent cinema, production and narrative.

In addition to this, the architectural beauty and historical surroundings of Villa de Leyva provide a unique context for the celebration of cinema.

The Villa de Leyva International Independent Film Festival (Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente) not only enriches the region's cultural offering, but also boosts tourism and strengthens Colombia's role on the international film scene.
