In mid-May the town of San Juan Nepomuceno, in the Montes de María region in Bolívar, celebrates its patron saint festivities in honor of the 14th century Czech priest who gives its name to the town.

The central festival takes place on the 16th of the month with the patronal Eucharist, normally presided over by the Archbishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, followed by the procession with the image of the saint, which runs through the main streets of the municipality.

In addition to this, in the days before the celebration, novenas and skylights are held in preparation for the great party. In addition to religious events, during the San Juan Nepomuceno festivities (Fiestas Patronales en honor a San Juan Nepomuceno) you can enjoy sports activities and live music, with the sound of traditional bagpipes from the Montes de María region.

There are also food stalls where you can taste the famous María Luisa cookies, a cookie filled with dulce de leche and covered in meringue that is an emblematic sweet of the municipality.

The patron saint festivities of San Juan Nepomuceno (Fiestas Patronales en honor a San Juan Nepomuceno) not only strengthen the sense of community, devotion and cultural identity of the municipality, but also attract visitors from other regions, promoting integration and collective enjoyment.
