In the week before the beginning of Lent in the municipality of San Jacinto in the Montes de María region, the traditional carnival is celebrated, a festival with the elements typical of the carnivals of the Caribbean coast.

One of the central events of the festivities is the Battle of Flowers, a colorful parade presided over by floats richly decorated with floral arrangements, ribbons and multicolored feathers, in which the candidates for the reign go.

During the parade, the sanjacinteros exhibit all their creativity with different costumes and celebrate by throwing cornstarch.

The election of the carnival queen is another of the most anticipated moments, with the participation of candidates from all the neighborhoods of the municipality. The coronation night is completed with the presentation of guest artists who liven up the atmosphere and infect attendees with their energy.

The carnival also offers a platform for local gastronomy, with various stalls serving traditional dishes from the region, allowing visitors to enjoy rich Caribbean cuisine. In addition, the event includes recreational activities and costume contests and troupes that encourage participation and a sense of community.

The San Jacinto Carnival (Carnavales de San Jacinto) not only celebrates the cultural identity of the municipality, but also strengthens community ties and attracts tourists, contributing to the cultural and economic dynamism of the region.
