In the week before Ash Wednesday in El Guamo, a municipality in the Montes de María region in the department of Bolívar, its traditional carnivals (Carnavales de El Guamo) take place.

As is customary in most carnivals on the Caribbean coast, the festivities begin with the guacherna parade, after which the reading of the bando takes place, which is in charge of the queen of the previous year's carnival.

During the celebrations, the parades are the protagonists, led by the Carnival Queen, which present carefully decorated floats, troupes and dance groups that pay tribute to the cultural diversity of the region.

One of the most emblematic parades is the one known as the Battle of Flowers in which floats decorated with beautiful floral arrangements travel through the streets of the town.

The pageant is another of the central events of the festivities, crowning the Carnival Queen among candidates from all the neighborhoods and townships of the municipality.

"El Guamo Carnival" is a celebration of local identity, promoting integration and joy among participants and spectators.

In addition to its cultural relevance, the carnival boosts tourism and the economy of the municipality, consolidating itself as an event of great importance in the Montes de María region.
