In mid-December in Simití, the traditional patron saint festivities are celebrated in honor of the Virgin of the Original (Fiesta Patronal en honor a La Virgen de La Original), a Marian devotion typical of the municipality whose origins date back to the 18th century. 

According to legend, in gratitude for their hospitality, two angels gave an oil painting of the Blessed Virgin to an elderly couple in the town, a work that today rests on the altar of the Chapel of the Virgin of the Original and is an object of devotion on the part of the Simiteños.
 
The feast of the Virgin of the Original is celebrated on December 15 with the Solemn Eucharist, followed by a procession through the streets of the town with the painting, and ending with a fireworks display. 

In addition to religious events, during the festivities you can enjoy different cultural activities, among which the characteristic gigantona parade stands out, a tradition typical of Magdalena Medio and the Northeast of Antioquia, and the Pageant of Sympathy with candidates from the different centers. towns and neighborhoods of the municipality.
 
As part of the pageant, the whale boat parade takes place, an event in which the candidates parade through the Ciénaga de Simití in canoes decorated with balloons and ribbons. Additionally, the nights are filled with music and dance, featuring street parties and concerts that invite the community to enjoy and celebrate.
 
The patron saint festivities of Simití are a special moment to reinforce the sense of community and preserve the traditions that define the identity of the municipality.
