In October, Puerto Colombia becomes the scene of the International Tunas Festival (Festival Internacional de las Tunas Corazonistas), an event that transports us to the origins of this university tradition in the Middle Ages in Europe.

The tunas are musical groups formed by university students who perform traditional music with instruments such as the bandurria, the lute and the guitar.

These groups, originally from Spain, usually dress in period costumes and perform serenades in which they combine music and singing, keeping old student traditions alive.

In 1968, students from the Sacred Heart School in Puerto Colombia founded the Tuna Mayor Corazonista, which since 2011 has organized the festival, which is attended by numerous similar groups from different cities in the country and abroad, mainly from Spain and Mexico.

As part of the festival, the tunas offer free concerts in the plaza of the Mariano Nuestra Señora del Carmen Sanctuary. Likewise, the event is used to highlight different artistic, social and cultural initiatives within the municipality.

The Puerto Colombia Tunas Festival not only promotes music and university traditions, but also strengthens the ties of brotherhood between different countries of the Hispanic world through a festive and musical atmosphere that has established itself as a prominent event on the calendar. culture of the region.
