The Medellín International Poetry Festival (Festival Internacional de Poesía de Medellín), held each July, is one of the most prestigious literary events in the world. Founded in 1991, the festival has brought together poets from different latitudes, consolidating itself as a space for intercultural encounter and dialogue through poetry.
During the festival, the city becomes a poetic scene with readings in parks, squares, theaters and libraries, allowing poetry to reach every corner of Medellín.
Attendees can enjoy the work of recognized and emerging poets from more than 40 different countries, who recite in their original languages, creating a mosaic of voices and styles that enrich the audience's experience.
Diverse voices can also be found among Colombian poets thanks to the representation of indigenous peoples.
In recent editions, poets from the Kamëntšá (Putumayo), Wayuu (Atlantic coast), Ocaina-Uitoto (Amazon) and Yanacona (Cauca) peoples have participated.
The festival also includes workshops, conferences and forums that address literary and social topics, encouraging the exchange of ideas and learning, as well as concerts, cinema and theater as complementary activities.
The event promotes community participation through free activities open to the public, highlighting the importance of poetry as a tool for social and cultural transformation.
The Medellín International Poetry Festival (Festival Internacional de Poesía de Medellín) not only celebrates poetry, but also strengthens community ties, promotes inclusion and diversity, and reaffirms Medellín's role as a global cultural and literary epicenter.
