In September, the MedeJazz festival is held in Medellín, an event that has been held uninterruptedly since 1997 when a group of jazz musicians organized an event at the small Matacandelas theater in the center of the city, with such a good reception that it took decision to repeat it the following year at the Little Theatre, giving rise to the festival.
MedeJazz offers an extensive program that includes concerts, workshops, and jam sessions. The concerts, held in different emblematic venues of the city such as the Medellín Museum of Art or the Great Hall of Plaza Mayor, present a varied range of jazz styles, from traditional jazz to contemporary fusions that incorporate Latin and Afro-Caribbean rhythms with invited groups. from different countries such as the United States, Cuba, Puerto Rico, France and Holland.
These presentations allow the public to enjoy the diversity and richness of the genre. In addition to concerts, Medejazz organizes workshops and music clinics taught by experts, aimed at both professional and amateur musicians.
