In June, "the city of eternal spring" becomes the tango capital with the Medellín International Tango Festival (Festival Internacional de Tango de Medellín), an event that has been held in the capital of Antioquia since 2007 to celebrate the connection that the city has with this typical musical genre of the Río de la Plata, a connection that began to strengthen in the 1930s after the plane crash at the Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellín in which the tango icon, Carlos Gardel, died.

The festival includes a wide variety of activities, such as live concerts, milongas, dance competitions and tango workshops.

The concerts feature prominent tango singers and orchestras, primarily from Argentina and Uruguay, offering shows that capture the essence and emotion of this musical genre.

"Milongas", which take place in public squares and dance halls, allow attendees to enjoy and practice tango in an authentic and vibrant environment.

The dance competitions are one of the highlights of the festival, with couples of dancers competing in different categories, showing their skill, elegance and passion for tango.

Workshops are also held that provide the opportunity to learn and perfect dancing and singing techniques, for both beginners and experts.

The Medellín International Tango Festival (Festival Internacional de Tango de Medellín) not only celebrates this musical and dance genre, but also strengthens the cultural identity of the city, promotes tourism and consolidates Medellín as an epicenter of tango internationally.
