Every May 21, Afro-Colombian Day (Día de la Afro Colombianidad) is celebrated in Murindó, a date on which Colombia commemorates the abolition of slavery and celebrates Afro-Colombian heritage in culture.
One of the central aspects of Afro-Colombian Day is the cultural programming, which includes traditional music and dance performances. Rhythms such as the currulao and the marimba, which are fundamental in Afro-Colombian culture, fill the streets with their vibrant energy.
Dances and songs are an expression of the cultural richness and identity of the community. In addition, the event features exhibitions of Afro-Colombian crafts and gastronomy, as well as hairstyle contests and discussions about the history, traditions and challenges of the Afro-descendant community, which allow visitors and locals to experience, appreciate and learn more about the diversity of local culture
The celebration of Afro-Colombian Day (Día de la Afro Colombianidad) in Murindó is not only an opportunity to enjoy cultural festivities, but also to promote inclusion, respect and appreciation of Afro-Colombian heritage.
