At the beginning of February in the district of Campo Alegre, municipality of Murindó, the patron saint festivities of the Virgen de la Candelaria (Fiesta Religiosa de La Candelaria) are celebrated, whose festival is commemorated on the 2nd of the month according to the liturgical calendar.
The event extends over several days and includes a series of cultural and recreational activities such as sporting events, mainly micro-soccer blitz tournaments, traditional games, shawms, and cultural displays of dance and folk music.
The Atrato River is also the protagonist of the festivities, being the scene of canoe parades with musicians on board, who liven up the party for the spectators on the shore.
The Fiestas de la Virgen de la Candelaria in the Campo Alegre district are an occasion to strengthen community ties and celebrate the cultural and religious identity of the region.
