Every year on the first or second long weekend in November, Venice becomes the scene of the spectacular International Balloon Festival (Festival de Globos).
For two days the skies of this municipality in southwestern Antioquia, about 60 kilometers from Medellín, are filled with hundreds of balloons of all kinds of sizes, shapes and colors, manufactured by enthusiastic balloon makers from various towns in Antioquia and other departments of the country.
Likewise, guests from countries such as Mexico and Brazil participate in the festival. Balloons are awesome examples of teamwork and creativity.
There are balloons that represent the fauna and flora, the indigenous communities, religious motifs such as different devotions to the Virgin Mary and even the most traditional soccer teams in Antioquia: Atlético Nacional and Deportivo Independiente Medellín. Complementing the balloon show is a food area where you can taste local dishes and products, and live music.
The International Balloon Festival (Festival de Globos) not only celebrates skill and imagination, but also promotes tourism and strengthens the sense of community, becoming an unmissable event that highlights the cultural identity of Antioquia and revitalizes the municipality's economy.
