During the first festive long weekend of November in Pueblorrico, a municipality in southwestern Antioquia, the Coffee and Trapiche Festivals (Fiestas del Café y el Trapiche) are celebrated with which Pueblorriqueños pay tribute to their two most characteristic products: coffee and panela.
The agricultural vocation of Pueblorrico is celebrated with activities such as peasant markets and the traditional Farmer's Day, in which an abundant lunch with typical products of the region is shared, a gift raffle is held, and a mule driving contest is held.
Likewise, demonstrations of the panela production process are carried out with a small sugar mill and local coffee tastings are carried out.
The festival is also a perfect opportunity to learn about Pueblorrico's famous sweets such as rice sandwiches, panelitas or icacos.
Activities that highlight Paisa culture are also carried out, such as the Trovas Festival, the gathering of shawms or the parade of comparsas in which Antioquia myths and traditions are celebrated.
Together, the Coffee and Trapiche Festivals (Fiestas del Café y el Trapiche) are an immersive experience in the agricultural and gastronomic traditions of southwest Antioquia and a perfect opportunity to enjoy the best of the culture of this region of the country.
