About 50 kilometers southwest of Medellín is the municipality of Armenia that every November celebrates its Geranium and Fiambre Festivals (Fiestas del Geranio y del Fiambre), a festival that has become a distinctive event of this town.

During a weekend, Armenians celebrate the culture of their municipality with a wide variety of cultural, gastronomic and sports activities. Basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer and 11-a-side soccer tournaments are held for both men and women; there is live music with local artists and special guests, peasant markets, parades of troupes of myths and legends and gastronomic fairs with local products.

The main event of the festivities is the competition for the best geranium, the emblematic flower of Armenia, and the best cold cuts, where local flower growers and chefs have the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and exhibit the fruit of their work. As is customary in various festivals throughout Antioquia, the Geranium and Fiambre Festivals end with a community stew in which the entire town can come together around a common pot.

The Geranium and Fiambre Festivals not only celebrate the cultural and gastronomic heritage of Armenia, but also strengthen the sense of community and attract tourists, strengthening the municipality's economy and highlighting the typical products of the region.
