Very close to the mouth of the Nechí River in Cauca is Tarazá, a town founded in the mid-20th century and elevated to the category of municipality after its segregation from the town of Cáceres in 1979, where the "Fiestas del Río" are celebrated at the beginning of the year. Río, in honor of the connection of the Taracas community with the Nechí.
The river is the main scene of the weekend, filling with families who swim in it and go to its banks with traditional pots to share a community lunch.
Soccer and volleyball tournaments, canoeing competitions and sancocho contests are also organized on its shores, which are prepared in improvised stoves on the beach.
At night, the main stage of the party is the stage in the town's main park where there is live music with guest artists of national stature.
In recent editions of these festivals, Peter Manjarrés, Alzate and Farid Ortiz have performed in Tarazá.
Fireworks shows and exhibitions of local businesses are also organized, showing the talent of the people of Taraz.
The River Festival strengthens the sense of identity and belonging among the inhabitants of Tarazá, uniting the community around the river - a central element of town life -, consolidating the River Festival as an essential tradition in the Tarazá calendar.
