In San Vicente del Caguán, about 150 kilometers from Florencia, the Folkloric and Cultural Artistic Festival of the Yariseño Dance (Festival Folclórico y Baile del Yariseño) is held at the end of June, a celebration that pays tribute to the emblematic dance of the municipality, written by maestro Jorge Villamil in 1970, combining elements of the "sanjuanero", the" joropo" and the "pasillo" as a tribute to the diverse origins of the settlers who populated the region in the first half of the 20th century.
The execution of the Yariseño dance is the most important of the tests that the candidates must perform in the pageant that takes place within the framework of these festivities.
In recent editions of the festival, the candidates have also incorporated the performance of the "Sanjuanero Caqueteño", thus highlighting not only the culture of San Vicente but that of the entire department of Caquetá.
During the festival there are cultural exhibitions with music and folk costumes, parades of floats and troupes that highlight the most emblematic elements of the history and culture of San Vicente, craft exhibitions and concerts with local artists and special guests.
The Yariseño Dance Folk Festival (Festival Folclórico y Baile del Yariseño) is an opportunity to strengthen the cultural identity of the municipality, promote tourism and unite the community around its traditions, thus transforming San Vicente del Caguán into a territory of peace.
