In November, during the festive long weekend of Cartagena's independence, the Wool Festival (Festival de la Lana, La Papa, la Leche y la Arriaría) is held in Marulanda, a municipality located about 125 kilometers from Manizales, a celebration with which Marulandeños pay tribute to their agricultural traditions.
During the weekend, locals and foreigners can enjoy activities such as parades, sporting events, popular festivals, traditional games and live music in the town's main square.
Sheep, the symbol of the municipality, are the protagonist of the festivities with emblematic events such as the lamb parade, milking competitions and craft exhibitions in which local artisans exhibit the wool process from shearing the sheep to the production of the characteristic fabrics of the region such as ruanas and ponchos.
Horseback riding and mule driving competitions are also held, celebrating the town's peasant traditions. The Wool Festival is not only an opportunity to strengthen the cultural and economic identity of the community, but also promotes tourism in the region, attracting visitors from different parts of the country.
This event, full of color and tradition, has become a symbol of local pride and a tribute to the work of the artisans and ranchers of Marulanda.
